The invention devises a system for arranging packages in a row at predetermined intervals. This row of packages is intended to be combined with other rows to form layers, which can in their turn be palletized. Under the system provided for by the invention, the packages which reach the grouping/conveying section can be held at appropriate intervals by means of a light barrier (11), two groups of counters (201-20k-1/222-22k) and space distributors which are controlled by this circuit. In this process, the first group of counters records the passage of a certain package and emits a triggering signal to a counter (22 mu ), which is incremented by means of pulses from a pulse generator (14). The pulse generator (14) is synchronised with the grouping/conveying section, so that the counting corresponds to the path of the package in question along the grouping/conveying section. The counter emits a signal when a number has been reached which indicates that the package has completed its passage to the space distributor, which is to halt the following package.
