PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a reproduced image stable in finished density by automatically correcting exposure in accordance with photographic characteristics from an image density obtained by developing a reference sample. CONSTITUTION:Control strips 6A are developed with an automatic developing device 5, and the density of each wedge pattern 7 is measured with a densitometer 7. It detects this density as an electric signal and this signal is composed with a reference density signal by a comparator 9. It stores the reference level in the same stage as the density of each wedge pattern 7, and detects a deviation of the density of each pattern 7 from the reference level corresponding to each wedge pattern 7. A data processing device 10 obtains an exposure correcting curve corresponding to the detection signal of the comparator 9 from the this signal and the photographic characteristic curve.
