A hinge device, for use on windows including a frame 1 and a sash 2 mounted therein for movement about a horizontal axis, comprises a stationary part 17 (secured to the frame by screws 19' via apertures 19) and a movable part 3 (secured to the sash via screws 2' and holes 4' of securing member 4) which is pivotally mounted on the stationary part and has a pivot pin 10 which is pivotally supported on pivot guide 20, 21 of arcuate configuration, the movable part having parallel plate members 6, 7 in which the pin is mounted and which encompass the pivot guide, the abutment surfaces 23 and 5' being in engagement with each other in the closed position of the hinge and in a range of angular positions adjacent to the closed position. Movement of the window from the fully closed to the open position causes it to pivot about 23, 5' during the first 15‹ of movement from the vertical. In this initial phase, the pivot pin 10 moves down between 20, 21 until it reaches the bottom of the slot. From 15‹ from the vertical to 180‹, the window pivots about pin 10. The process is reversed when the window is closed. The pivot pin 10 may include a rigid rod and sleeves which surround the ends of the rod and pass through apertures in the plate members 6, 7. |
