Without reducing the vision and illumination of the carriageway, in order to eliminate the dazzle effect narrow filter strips which cover only the headlight area, similarly to the effect of the motorway anti-dazzle barriers, but with visible headlights, are attached behind the windscreen. The type and strength of the filter can be determined by the user. By slightly raising or inclining the head, the eye can be matched to the position of the headlights in hilly country. When required, the carriageway can be observed above and below the edge of the filter or past the edge of the filter with the eye facing the driver's own carriageway. The device is attached either with a horizontally or vertically adjustable linkage, for example to or else in the sun visor which is installed in a stationary fashion, or at the other optimum point for the user. When the sun is at a very low position, the filter strip can be used as a sun visor. The filter protection can be installed separately for drivers and front seat passengers. For vehicles following behind the rearview mirrors are equipped with narrow filter strips.
