PURPOSE:To aim at an energy-saving promotion, by making a connecting rod lighter in weight in a way of manufacturing it with a fiber reinforced compound material. CONSTITUTION:A rod 1 is composed of a fiber excellent in an elastic modulus at tensile strength, for example, a carbon fiber and as a matrix, a fiber reinforced compound material using heat resistant resins by way of example, while a cap 5 also is made up of the fiber reinforced compound material like the rod body 1. At the contact part of a small end 2 with a piston pin 3, a metal 12 having longer size L' than the thickness L of the small end 2 is installed. Also at the contact parts of a big end 4 and the cap 5 with a crankshaft 6, a metal 13 is installed. In addition, at the small end 2, a one-way fiber 14 continued in loop form in a circumferential direction around a shaft of the piston pin 3 or cloth is disposed so as to stand the bending stress, while at the big end 4, a one-way fiber or cloth is disposed, and the cap 5 is made up of another one-way fiber 16 or cloth. |
