PURPOSE:To obtain uniform sealing effect without damaging the mating surfaces of mating members by forming a bead out of a substrate made of an elastic metal board andby arranging auxiliary plates which are softer than the substrate. CONSTITUTION:In a metal gaskets inserted into a mating layer 20 between a cylinder head 16 and a cylinder block 18, a bead 4 is compressed by bolt tightening force to form a sealing line. Surface pressure due to restoring force of the bead 4 acts upon cylinder head 16 side via the first auxiliary plate 8. At the same time, owing to the bolt tightening force, end portions 26 of the bead 4 applies surface pressure to the cylinder block 18 via the second auxiliary plate 10 and the third auxiliary plate 12. Owing to the surface pressure along the sealing line, the metal gasket is brought into close contact with the mating surface to achieve leak prevention. High surface pressure, which occurs locally on the second auxiliary plate 10, can be dispersed by providing the third auxiliary plate 12. |
