Pheromones that are degraded by UV light are dispersed from a microcapillary tube contg. a UV screen and, opt., an antioxidant. Typical pheromones include (Z)-11-hexadecenal, (E)-11-tetradecenal, (Z)-9-tetradecenal, and (Z,Z)-11,13-hexadecadienal. The microcapillary tubes may be made from a polyester, polyolefin, acrylic, modacrylic or polyamide. Suitable UV screens include carbon blacks, dyes and pigments that are opaque to UV and benzopheromes of formula (I) (where R1= H or 1-12C alkoxy; R2= H, sulphonic acid or sodium sulphonate; R3= H or OH; R4= H, OH or CH3O). Insect lures and/or a device to prevent insects mating are obtd. The pheromone-filled hollow fibres may be distributed outdoors and slowly liberate the pheromone. The pheromone is not degraded by sunlight and hence the liberation is prolonged.
|
