PURPOSE:To make it possible to store a picture image in the state of light signals by utilizing a phenomenon based on light non-linearity of a matter known as light echo. CONSTITUTION:Write light pulse 15, picture image information 16 and read light pulse 17 are made incident in time series respectively. That is, the write light pulse 15 irradiates the whole light non-linear material 11 in nearly uniform distribution of intensity through a semi-transparent mirror 12. Then, the light 16 having picture image information is irradiated on the material 11 from opposite side of the light 15 through a space modulator 13. Irradiation of the light 16 is terminated within phase relaxation time determined by the material from incidence. Writing is completed as above, and picture image information is stored in the material 11. When reading out, read light pulse 17 irradiated on the material 11 from the same direction as the light 15 through the semi-transparent mirror 12 in nearly uniform distribution of intensity in the face. Then, picture image information stored after a time equal to time interval between incidence of the light 17 and light 15 and light 16 is outputted from the material 11 as output light 18. This is reflected by the semi-transparent mirror 12 and reproduces an image on a screen. |
