PURPOSE:To obtain a gas detection element enhanced in sensitivity to combustible gas, especially, to CH4 gas and stable with the elapse of time, by using a gas sensor prepared by containing one of or both of Ge and Th in SnO2 containing a SO4-ion in a specific range in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:GeO2 and ThO2 are respectively added to a mixture containing 0.005-10wt% of a SO4-ion prepared by mixing and crushing SnO2 to which SnSO4 is added alone or in combination in an amount of 0.1-50mol% and, after mixing, an org. binder is added to the resulting mixture so that a particle with a particle size of 100-200mum by granulation. In the next step, the obtained powdery particles are formed into a desired rectangular parallelepied which is then baked. Subsequently, Au is vapor deposited on surface of the obtained sintered body to provide a pair of comb shaped electrodes while a heater is attached to the opposite side surface thereof to form a gas detection element. By this method, sensitivity to CH4 gas is enhanced at a relatively low temp. without adding a noble metal catalyst. |
