The patent applied for under the title <<Permanent traffic recording system>> consists of one or more lens units, a transmission link to a regenerative memory and a picture developing unit that is to be triggered by sensors. The traffic observation system records the traffic situation vehicle by vehicle while driving or - in the case of battery operation - in the state of rest. The pictures taken are transmitted on the transmission link (e.g. glass fibre lines) to a recording unit which can be reused virtually without limits and which operates physically in accordance with the electrostatic principle. The pictures recorded there are retained and erased after a short time in order to create <<room>> for a new picture of the surroundings. Should an accident occur, impact sensors come into action which prevent erasure of the pictures last recorded and cause a picture to be output in the form of a copy on paper. The accident is thereby irrevocably retained. The technology of the recording unit and of the development and outputting of the finished copy is already known and has proved itself through the medium of plain paper photocopiers. What is novel is the idea of combination with the remaining components and the possibilities thereby rendered possible as use as an observing instrument for any type of traffic. A general application would also be conceivable wherever the aim is to retain fleeting impressions without a permanent intermediate medium and to make them visible only when required, and ...
