The seal provided for sealing against hydraulic fluids has a sealing body with two axially spaced scraper lips. Projecting outwards from the sealing body, transversely to the axis of the seal, is a sealing part which rests sealingly, under prestress, against a counter sealing surface. The sealing part forms an air-side closure of a cavity which is open towards the fluid end of the seal. When the pressure of the fluid in the cavity exceeds the prestressing force of the sealing part, the sealing part rises from the counter sealing surface, allowing the fluid to escape to the outside. This provides an optical signal that a primary seal which cannot be seen is defective and should be replaced.
