<p>PURPOSE:To speed up light transmission response by using a four-level voltage as a write selection signal applied to write selection electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A glass substrate having N write selection electrodes and a glass substrate having M data signal electrodes are opposed to each other so that they cross each other; and a nematic liquid crystal composition having a <=100kHz cross frequency where dielectric anisotropy in zero at room temperature is enclosed between both substrates, and a couple of polarizing plates are provided at the outside of them. Then, a signal is applied between a write selection electrode and a data signal electrode to perform N time-division driving. In this case, a valve opening signal 903 and a maintaining signal 902 are provided within a write allotted time; and a closing signal 901 is provided not within the time and the four-level voltage is used as the write selection signal T1 to realize an increase in transmitted light energy and fast light transmission response.</p> |
