PURPOSE:To obtain a stable superconductive coil which is free from short- circuiting between the adjacent turns of the coil wire and large in current density and is efficiently cooled by a refrigerant, by longitudinally coating a wire with a thin insulating tape such that at least one of the sides of the cross- section of the wire is exposed, thereby to insulate all the curved portions of the wire. CONSTITUTION:A thin insulating tape, e.g., a tape 4 with a thickness not greater than 0.15mm. which is formed by coating a polyimide film with a thermosetting resin or an adhesive, is employed to coat a flat square superconductive wire 1 such as to cover the two shorter-side surfaces and the curved portions of the wire 1, the other two surface being not insulated. A coil made from such insulated superconductive wire is free from the fear of failure in insulation arising from the thinness of the insulating tape 4, since the insulating tape 4 forms two insulation layers between the adjacent turns of the wire. In addition, since the curved portions of the wire are coated with the insulating tape 4, any displacement between the adjacent turns of the wire will not cause short-circuiting between the turns. The portions of the wire which are not insulated are efficiently cooled, since they are allowed to contact with a refrigerant. |
