Device for measuring form errors, in particular straightness errors of workpieces and machine slideways, two at least approximately mutually parallel scales of identical shape being provided for the measuring faces, and the measuring faces being situated like mirror images in relation to a reference straight line, and a measurement carriage being provided which is guided on the two measuring faces simultaneously, so that a point of the measurement carriage always lies on the reference straight line. In order to compensate the influence present in this case of the sagging of the scales under their own weight on the measurement result, torques which counteract the sagging of the scales due to their own weight are applied to the ends of the two scales on which the latter are mounted.
