PURPOSE:To obtain a dense sintered ceramic body of high hardness characterized by the absence of a binding metallic phase by using the carbide, nitride or boride of a IVa, Va or VIa group metal as the principal component of a hard phase and rhombic Cr carbide or boride and an iron group metal as the components of a binding phase. CONSTITUTION:Powder of >=1 kind of compound selected from the carbides, nitrides and borides of the IVa and Va group metals and the VIa group metals except Cr or powder of a solid soln. of such compounds is used as the principal component of a hard phase. A binding phase is composed of 1-80vol% powder of rhombic Cr carbide and/or boride or powder of a solid soln. thereof and of powder of >=1 kind of iron group metal or base alloy powder as a subsidiary metal. A green compact consisting of said powders is sintered so that all of the subsidiary metal is present in the binding and hard phases in a solubilized state after sintering. |
