<p>A mechanism for driving the rotating drum of a washing machine is described, of which an automatically varying diameter pulley (Fig. 3) enables the drive ratio from the motor to the rotating drum of the washing machine to vary as the motor starts up, so allowing the torque supplied by the motor to be adapted to match the resistant torque. The annular pulley halves 18, 19 are both axially movable up to annular stops 16, 17 and intermediate speeds may be obtained by the use of undisclosed adjusting devices.</p> |
