The invention relates to a method for the identification of materials and to a device for analysing crystalline proteolipid compounds. The method which is the subject of the invention consists in producing tribo-electrification of the surface of a test material with the aid of a test element, in measuring the intensity of triboluminescence using a photometer and in comparing this intensity with that of the reference sample. This method is characterised in that the tribo-electrification is achieved using an element which is produced from polytetrafluoroethylene or from polytrifluorochloroethylene and in that the intensity of triboluminescence is measured by a photometer which is cooled down to a temperature between -20 DEG C and -60 DEG C. The invention can be applied to the identification of various materials both in solid and liquid phase. <IMAGE>
