The protection system includes the use of a material which absorbs hydrogen inside the fuel tanks. This storage material consists of hollow glass or plastics bodies into which hydrogen gas diffuses. These bodies can be balls which have a radius of about 1000 microns and a wall thickness of five microns. The balls are sintered together to form a block. The block can form a foam glass body. The armour plating of the vehicle can be filled with storage materials of this kind.
