The toy construction kit consists of a plurality of basic structural elements (10) which are to be connected to each other and additional structural elements. The basic structural elements are boards which are grooved on both sides, the opposing grooves (12, 14) of which intersect each other and partially penetrate each other. They are arranged in a parallel grid pattern on each side and have identical width and identical depth. The penetration takes place to a depth of a few tenths of a millimetre. The grooves have a sufficient width for the passage of helical connecting elements. <IMAGE>
