1477209 Treating liquid wastes; hydrophobised metal oxides F BOLSING 6 June 1974 [6 June 1973 (2)] 25282/74 Headings C1A and CIC [Also in Division Al] Oily or polymeric liquid waste substances in sludge, slurry, dispersion, emulsion or multiphase liquid form are treated, so as to incorporate the waste in a disposable solid, with an alkaline earth oxide e.g. CaO which has been pretreated with 0À001-10% of its weight of a hydrophobic or surface active substance, subsequently treating the mixture with H 2 O to form the alkaline earth hydroxide and yield the solid. Specified hydrophobic substances include paraffins and fatty acids. Wastes treated in Examples are used motor oil, electoplating sludge, organic emulsions, synthetic resin suspensions, emulsified oils and oils on water. The process may also be applied to wastes (e.g. oil) land, by tilling the treated oxide into the soil, adding water and re-working.
|
