A blank for an unlined container having a substantially rectangular bottom (1), upwardly diverging sides (2, 3, 6, 7) and round the entire upper edge an obliquely downwards directed edge flange (20) includes portions (12, 13, 10a) of the short sides (6, 7) and of joining pieces (10) which have had their thickness reduced by grinding or milling so that a tongue defined by overlapping portions of the blank at each end of the container is reduced in thickness. Preferably the blank is made of a relatively stiff cardboard material, which at least at the intended inner side of the container bowl has a laminated or extruded surface layer of plastic, metal foil or a combination thereof. The grinding or milling of the material is made from the cardboard side to a level at or close to the surface layer material of plastic, metal or a plastic-metal combination. <IMAGE> |
