A hydraulically controlled clutch 16, 17, 15 is mounted within the external ring gear 18 of an epicyclic gear train comprising satellite pinions 13 and a planetary pinion 38. A second clutch acting as a brake 43, 44 also equipped with a hydraulic control piston 73 makes it possible to immobilise the planetary pinion 38. The framework of the device is constituted by the stacking of three casing elements 1, 2 and 3 within which are mounted the three sets of members 5, 6 and 7 which are able to turn with respect to each other about the axis X, X'. These three sets are supported essentially by the three conical roller bearings 8, 9 and 10. Such an arrangement makes it possible to substantially diminish the space requirement of the demultiplication device. The device can be mounted at the output of a gearbox in order to obtain a multiplying up on each set or some of the gear ratios. <IMAGE>
