The invention relates to a device enabling a roll or a reel of string to be unwound hygienically and without risk of seeing the latter jam up. It consists of a housing 4 having an opening 6 through which the string 5 passes. A spindle 1 welded to a cover 2 enables the reel 3 to be supported by a ball 7 which is screwed onto the spindle 1. The pay-out device according to the invention is intended to unwind rolls or reels of string for food or for packaging. <IMAGE>
