PURPOSE:To obtain a titled photographic emulsion having high max. density and low min. density by adding 2 specified kinds of monomethine cyanine dyes to the direct positive internal latent image type silver halide photographic emulsion. CONSTITUTION:To a direct positive internal latent image type silver halide photographic emulsion are added (A) a monomethine cyanine dye having formula I and after the lapse of 1min or more, (B) a monomethine dye having formula II(W, Y are each O, Se, S, or >N-R5; R5 is a lower alkyl optionally substd. by halogen or a lower alkoxy; Z, Z1-3 are each an atomic group necessary to form an optionally substd. benzene or naphthalene ring; R1, R2 are each alkyl, aralkyl, or aryloxyalkyl; R3, R4 are each alkyl having carboxy or sulfo, and at least one of them has sulfo; X1 is an acid anion; and X2 is a cation) each in amt. of 1.0X10<-5>-1.0X10<-3>mol per mol of silver halide and in 1/20-20/1 B/A ratio.
