PURPOSE:To provide an acrylonitrile-based flameproof fiber, having specific limit oxygen index (LOI) and elongation, excellent flameproofness and heat resistance, and high processability such as spinnability, and useful as a flameproof cloth, raw material of fibrous activated carbon, etc. CONSTITUTION:An acrylonitrile-based flameproof fiber having an LOI of >=45 and an elongation of >=20%. The fiber can be prepared by treating an acrylonitrile fiber preferably having a fineness of 1.5-5 denier with an aqueous solution of a mixture of an aluminum polychloride, an iron compound and a phosphorus compound, and oxidizing the resultant fiber containing 50-500ppm of Al, 5-100ppm of Fe and 50-1,000ppm of P. |
