PURPOSE:To obtain a device of a high coupling efficiency at low cost by a method wherein the diameter of a window is made smaller than that of an optical fiber holder arranged on a cap, and a glass is used for a window material, when the cap having the photo transmitting window is provided on a header loaded with a light emitting diode. CONSTITUTION:The light emitting diode chip 12 is fixed on the header 10 whose one external lead 13a is projected on the under surface, and an electrode provided thereto is connected to the other external lead 13b made to penetrate the header 10 by means of a metallic fine wire 14. Next, a lens 15 is mounted at the center on the chip 12, and the cap 17 having the photo transmitting window 18 at the position corresponding to the lens 15 is put over the header 10 which includes those elements. At this time, the area of the window 18 is made smaller than the cross section of the optical fiber holder 4 with a bult-in optical fiber core wire 8 provided on the cap 17, and the glass is used for the material of the window 18. Besides, the periphery of the core wire 8 is filled with a filler. |
