PURPOSE:To produce an activated carbon sorption agent having excellent sorptive power of phosphorus by impregnating a water soluble zirconium compd. in activated carbon, and subjecting the same to a heat treatment after an alkali treatment and rinsing thereby sticking amorphous zirconium on the activated carbon. CONSTITUTION:The activated carbon formed from a pitch or the like and/or an org. synthetic high polymer or the like is dipped in an aq. soln. of a water soluble zirconium compd. to impregnate the water soluble zirconium compd. in the activated carbon. Such activated carbon is heat-treated at 400-1,000 deg.C after an alkali treatment and rinsing whereby the sorbent consisting of the activated carbon stuck therein with 1-10wt% the amorphous zirconium compd. in terms of ZrO2, having excellent sorptive power for a phosphorus component and also having the sorptive characteristic of the activated carbon is obtd. Spherical carbon is suitable as the above-mentioned activated carbon and the zirconium compd. to be stuck in the activated carbon is formed preferably of a water soluble compd. of zirconium halide, water soluble oxyacid salt of zirconium, zirconium oxychloride, etc., and an aq. soln. of ammonia or gaseous ammonia is preferably used for the alkali treatment. |
