Anti-skid element and burst tyre safety device for motor vehicles

This patent relates mainly to an anti-skid system which under certain circumstances could also be used as a burst tyre safety device. Since motor vehicles usually experience lateral skidding of the rear axle when travelling on sludge, snow or ice regardless of whether front wheel drive or rear wheel drive is used. The immediate stopping of the lateral skidding is aimed at and achieved by this anti-skid device by virtue of the fact that it consists of a tilting skate or runner and is solidly attached to the rear axle on a lowerable arm. When there is a risk of skidding, the arm is lowered. A hard rubber wheel which comes into contact with the surface of the road and rolls in the line of the direction of travel is attached to the outside of the arm. During lateral slipping of the rear axle, the wheel has the tendency to tilt out of its vertical position and, in this case, the laterally attached runner also tilts onto the slippery surface and prevents the vehicle skidding because the skate cuts a narrow channel into the material which is causing skidding without damaging the surface of the road. This system can also be constructed in various ways. After trials it is easy to manufacture a mass-produced product which is much more important than the seat belt.
