A verge-clearing apparatus comprises a cutting screw (3) which is arranged displaceably and pivotably on the front side of a road vehicle. Arranged behind the driver's cab (2) of the road vehicle (1) is a supporting arm (5) for a collecting device (7) which can be set down onto the ground next to the road vehicle (1). The collecting device (7) seizes the verge material gathered by the cutting screw (3) as the road vehicle (1) advances and flings this material either away to the side or onto a conveyor belt (8) lowered down just in front of the collecting device (7), by means of which the material is transported to a lorry moving on ahead. <IMAGE>
