Process for the production of goblet-like glass articles, in which a gob of glass delivered from the feeder of a glass melting furnace is placed on a plunger and pressed between the latter and a preform to give a glass tablet, the tablet is detached from the preform and placed on an annular element and then sags under the action of gravity, at least in its central part, to give a goblet shape and is then finally moulded in a mould to give the final shape, the glass tablet (7) being provided on its underside by the plunger (1) with a structure, which may, if desired, be modified during moulding to give the final shape in the mould (10, 16), but is not completely smoothed, and an apparatus for carrying out this process. <IMAGE>
