A rolling belt apparatus serves to provide passenger information in public transport vehicles, in which apparatus a belt (2) provided with an item of information is wound over two winding roller (3, 4) which can be optionally coupled to a drive (10) via a gearing. Two gearwheels (7, 8) which each engage with a winding roller (3 and 4, respectively) are arranged on a common drive shaft (9). Underneath the hubs (7a, 8a) of the gearwheels (7, 8), the drive shaft (9) has a spiral-shaped guide groove (9a) for a sphere (11). This guide groove (9a) is assigned guide grooves (7b, 8b) on the inside of the hubs (7a, 8a) in such a way that the sphere (11) is moved, by means of a rotational movement of the drive shaft (9) in one direction of rotation, against the one end of the channel formed by the grooves and a non-positively locking connection is produced between the drive shaft (9) and the first gearwheel (7), and, conversely, the sphere (11) is moved, by means of a rotation movement of the drive shaft in the other direction of rotation, to the other end of the channel formed by the grooves and a non-positively locking connection is brought about between the drive shaft (9) and the second gearwheel (8). <IMAGE>
