Household cutting machine, in particular electric motor-driven household cutting machine, having a housing for receiving the drive for a, preferably circular, cutter with a stop plate, possessing an actuating element, for setting the thickness of the slice to be cut off and with a device for reading the set position of the stop plate. To enable the user to find the position to be set of the stop plate easily, preferably rider-like markings are used, which are connected to the actuating element so as to be detachable as a function of different set positions. The rider-like markings can have both a different shape and a different colour, it being possible to assign a plurality of differently shaped and/or coloured markings to one and the same actuating element, as desired.
