PURPOSE:To make the combustion chamber volumes and compression ratios of engine cylinders uniform with a high degree of accuracy and as well to make an increase in the number of component parts relatively small, by dividing a cylinder body and a cylinder head into two halves, respectively, and by forming the combustion chambers of a plurality of engine cylinders in the halves. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder body 40 is divided into two halves along the center line of a cylinder arrangement, and as well, a head and a cover 44 are divided into two halves, accordingly. In order to make the compression ratios of engine cylinders uniform, the compression ratios of the engine cylinder are measured at first in their assembled condition so that the inclination of the mating surfaces of the cylinder head 42 and the cylinder body are obtained suitably by calculation or the like, and the mating surface of the cylinder head 42 is surface- worked. Accordingly, even if the shape of the combustion chambers is complicated, there are no need for machining the inner surface of each combustion chamber in the cylinder head, thereby the through-put of engine is enhanced. |
