An emulsion containing a powder of acrylic resin is precoated on the inner surface of a face plate of a color picture tube to form a primary coating. This is subsequently coated with a photosensitive composition, comprising a diazonium salt, to form a thin film. A selected portion of the film is exposed to light to make it adhesive, and the powder of a phosphor is deposited on the selected portion to form a phosphor layer for the first color.
