The invention relates to herbicidal agents comprising 1,2,4-triazolin-5-ones, which can be used for controlling undesirable plant growth in agricultural, horticultural and silvicultural crops. Starting from the demand for novel herbicides which act on problem weeds which are particularly difficult to control, it has been found that 3,4-disubstituted 1,2,4-triazolin-5-ones of the general formula I (for the meaning of R1 and R2, cf. description of the invention) have a good action against some weeds, in particular Galium spp.. The active substances according to the invention are expediently used in the preparations or use forms which are customary for herbicides and which are prepared using the conventional auxiliaries such as solvents, carriers, emulsifiers and dispersing agents. The agents according to the invention can be combined with other suitable herbicides for obtaining synergistic effects. An expedient use form is a tank mix. <IMAGE>
