PURPOSE:To obtain a high transfer efficiency by a method wherein an arbitrary medium potential part is provided between the maximum and minimum potential regions at the time of driving a vertical one of a vertical CCD element as a potential well. CONSTITUTION:The vertical CCD3 has gate electrodes 3-1-3-4, an interface part 4 has gate electrodes 4-1 and 4-2, and the ends thereof contact a gate electrode 5-1 of a horizontal CCD5. Clock signal phiV1-phiH are impressed respectively to the gate electrodes at fixed timing, and accordingly provide the medium potential part between the maximum and minimum potential regions. At the time of transferring charges by extinguishing potential wells successively from the reverse side to the direction of transfer, this constitution enables the charge emitted when the gate of the vertical CCD3 has a medium potential to become all confluent with signal charges, since the potential distribution has directivity; therefore the transfer efficiency improves. |
