PURPOSE:To enable slight torque to be easily detected by providing radially thin beams in a space between a center shaft and an outer annular body arranged coaxially with each other to flex said beams such that apparent torsional angle is produced between said shaft and body. CONSTITUTION:A torsion bar 10 is constituted from a center shaft 11, an outer annular body 12 arranged coaxially with said shaft and a plurality of thin beams 13-16 spaced 90 deg. from each other and arranged radially such that both ends of the beam interconnect said shaft and said body. When the projecting end of the center shaft 11 and the outer peripheral surface of the outer annular body 12 are joined respectivly with a prime motor shaft and a load shaft by chucks, torque is applied between the center shaft 11 and the outer peripheral body 12. Thus, the thin beams 13-16 flex so that deflection corresponding to apparent torsional angle theta in the rotational direction is produced between said shaft 11 and said body 12. Then, for example, to the outer peripheral surface of the shaft 11 and the end face of the outer annular body 12 are fixedly secured slit disks respectively whic are opposed to photoelectric converters. The torsional angle theta is determined by measuring the phase difference between both outputs of the converters to detect the torque. |
