The invention relates to a fuel feed system for a motor vehicle, in which a fuel tank, a feed pump and downstream of this an intermediate tank are arranged in a fuel feed line emerging from a fuel tank and leading to a fuel metering element. A return line having a throttle leads away from the intermediate tank, which return line opens into a section of the fuel feed line designed as an intake line, in order to ensure that the durability of the fuel feed pump is not impaired by dry running phases.
