A composition, suitable for use in suppressing the immune response of a human or animal to an antigen, comprises a suppressor factor which is capable of inducing immunosuppression or immunoregulation of the immune response to an antigen in a human or animal but comprises substantially no inducer factor capable of inducing the ability to mount a cell-mediated immune response in a human or animal to any antigen or to an antigen to which the suppressor factor is specific, said suppressor factor having been derived from cells of lymphoid origin of a human or other mammal and the composition containing substantially no molecules from said cells of lymphoid origin with a molecular weight of 12,000 or more.
