The method makes it possible to use only a minimum of one single electrical pulse to control the unlocking, the change of state and the locking of a member which can take several stable states, the new state being able to be determined. According to one embodiment, the member A1 is moved by a force generated by the coil B1 and brought about by the electrical pulse whose polarity, or another property, determines the direction of movement of A1. The auxiliary member A2 is always moved in the same direction by the coil B2 and sent back by a spring. A capacitor C, nonpolarised or equivalent, short-circuits B1 in such a way that the pulse is first of all applied to B2. A2 thus frees A1 before A1 is actuated. It is sufficient for the pulse to last only for the time taken to move A1, the locking taking place when it ceases.
