PURPOSE:To enhance the fuel-comsuption rate of an engine, by operating the engine along a torque curve which is plotted through points at which the fuel- consumption rate of the engine is minimum at each engine speed on an equi- fuel-consumption map, and as well by enabling the kinetic energy of a vehicle upon braking to be absorbed by a flywheel. CONSTITUTION:A clutch 4 is arranged so that a flywheel 3 may be engaged to and disengaged from a power transmission system, and an engine E is operated along a torque curve plotted through points at which the fuel-consumption rate is minimum at each engine speed on an equi-fuel-consumption map. Further, when a foot is removed from an accelerator pedal upon decelerating, a controller 1 compares at first between the outputs of a flywheel rotational speed sensor 31 and a vehicle speed sensor 9, and turns on the clutch 4 if the rotational speed of the flywheel is lower than the vehicle speed, to allow the flywheel 3 to retrieve energy, and thereafter, turns on an engine clutch 5 to initiate motoring operation. Thereafter, the vehicle is accelerated, if it is necessary, with the use of the power of the flywheel 3. |
