The invention relates to a device whereby wax seals may be applied without the need separately and simultaneously to manipulate the elements required to melt and apply the wax on the object to be sealed. The device comprises a body 1 having a crucible 2 intended to hold a wax pellet. The assembly is mounted on a pistol grip 4 by which the instrument is held for the purpose of melting the wax and applying the seal using only one hand. In one embodiment, the instrument is combined with a gas lighter for heating the crucible. In a second embodiment, the device has an electrical resistor 3 for heating the crucible. In this case the body of the instrument may hold an electric cell. The device according to the invention is a compact instrument which combines the components necessary for applying wax seals and facilitates this operation. <IMAGE>
