In industry there is a need for substances (also for the production of sliding bearings) whose components are usually immiscible or only poorly miscible with one another. Particularly in the case of components which have only a limited miscibility with one another even in the molten state and large differences with regard to the density and the melting point, the necessary fine distribution and the uniform composition cannot be achieved by the known methods. According to the invention, a melt which is at least partially homogeneous is prepared from the components, this melt is cooled to a temperature below the solidification temperature at a cooling rate which is greater than the critical cooling rate, auxiliaries are optionally added to the material, the material is then compacted mechanically and/or thermally and, if desired, its properties are further modified - in particular by plastic deformation or heat treatment. The process according to the invention permits the preparation of microscopically homogeneous intermediates from substances which are so poorly miscible with one another that even their melts tend to exhibit phase separation.
