<p>1296484 Magnetic coin eliminator MARS Inc 20 March 1970 [20 March 1969] 13739/70 Heading G4V A coin 18, travelling along the coin passageway 12 and supported by the platform 16, enters the field of a magnet 52, situated in an aperture 20 of the passageway wall 15, which is movable between positions adjacent and spaced from the platform, the field strength of the magnet being sufficient, for coins within a predetermined range of permeability to density, to effect lateral movement of a coin while it is supported from the platform, but insufficient in the second position to support the coin which is now free of the platform so allowing it to fall from the eliminator. The coin is preferably brought to rest adjacent the magnet by a soleno id controlled arrestor pin 19. In a first embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown) the magnet is a permanent magnet, in the embodiment shown it is an electromagnet, having a magnet coil 53. The magnet is preferably supported on a pivoted arm 54 which is connected to the armature 60 of a solenoid 58 that effects movement of the magnet. The magnet may be provided with a plate 56, e.g. of PTFE, which has a surface of low coefficient of friction, to facilitate the separation of the coin from the magnet. To ensure that coins of high permeability fall from the magnet when it is moved from the platform the strength of the magnet may be reduced in this position, preferably by the use of a soft iron shunt 62. The magnet may forcibly strike the shunt further ensuring that the coin is released. The solenoid 58 is actuated after the retraction of the arrestor pin 19 by suitable control circuitry 35 which includes a coin sensor and timing device. A coin with a low permeability to density ratio therefore continues rolling down the passageway before the magnet is moved.</p> |
