<p>On a gripper shuttle loom, the weft yarn is fed to the gripper at always the same angle, and the cut length is subjected during weaving to only very slight tension. The invention provides a first weft yarn guide and between this and the selvedge, a second yarn guide mounted on the shuttle box or the reed. In relation to the direction of shuttle movement, the second guide offers the same distance in relation to the cloth selvedge, or the holding element, as the first guide offers in relation to the tension device. Using this second guide, a supported length of cut weft is obtd. which remains constant during the movement of the slay. In particular, the cut length held between the second guide and the selvedge is shortened or lengthened during slay movement in accordance with the length of cut yarn between the first guide and the tension device, to obtain a constant length, and reduce the compensatory role previously imposed on the tension device. When the weft yarn is transferred to the gripper element of the shuttle, the yarn angular positioning should be exact, and approximately constant yarn tension should prevail, to provide trouble-free weaving over long periods. The introduction of a sec. yarn guide provides a constant length of weft, cut and supported during slay movement, so that weaving may proceed at a rapid rate.</p> |
