PURPOSE:To register easily an optional character by providing a dictionary stored with standard patterns and a table containing character codes, character kind specifying information, and addresses in the dictionary, and specifying and inputting the code, kind, and address of a character. CONSTITUTION:The kind of a character or symbol to be registered newly is determined and read by an unshown OCT together with its symbol by placing the OCR in character kind registration mode. Read character patterns are stored, character by character, in the pattern memory 2. A recognition part 4 performs matching between the patterns stored 2 and the standard patterns in the dictionary 5 to register the character codes in a memory 6 for character kind registration by the kinds. A control part 11 reads character codes out of the memory 6, character by character, to store character kind information and character codes in the entry part of the dictionary memory 5 together with addresses. In reading operation, data from the pattern memory 2 and dictionary memory 5 are compared mutually and recognized 4 to be outputted 9. Thus, desired characters are registered easily. |
