Locking screw has a diametral hole through the thread into which a nylon pin is inserted. The pin is tapered along its length and its length is greater than the root diameter of the screw but less than the outside diameter. The large end of the pin is slightly greaer in diameter than the hole. When the pin is inserted by hand, the taper causes it to jam so that it does not fall out before insertion. When inserted in the hole, the large end of the pin projects above but the small end is below the root of the thread. As the screw is engaged with a co-operating thread the axial force on the large end of the pin causes it to cold flow through the hole so that both ends of the pin engage the nut thread. The pin may be parallel and the hole tapered. |
