A mixture of Na, K, or ammonium phosphate and nitrate is obtained by dissolving a phosphate mineral in HNO 3 extracting the resulting solution with an organic solvent in the presence of excess HNO 3 , neutralizing the organio extract with NH 3 gas or a compound of Na, K, or ammonium, e.g. Na or K carbonate, and separating the salt phase, which may be a water solution or suspension or a solid. The separated solvent may be returned to the extraction stage. The extraction is preferably effected with nbutanol in counter-current. It may be so carried out as to extract Ca ions, in which case dicalcium phosphate is obtained in the salt phase also. The presence of Fe and A] in the raw mineral is referred to. |
