BRUSH DESCALING METHOD OF HOT ROLLING STEEL MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To remove scale from the surface of a red hot material for hot rolling having the scale on the surface without using water by sweeping abrasively the surface of the steel material by means of rotary brush having a specific construction. CONSTITUTION:The scale on the surface of a red hot steel material 1 drawn from a holding furnace is abrasively swept off by the rotation of descaling brushes 7 pressurized by an air cylinder 8 in the stage of feeding the material 1 to hot rolling rolls 4, 4 by means of table rolls 3 and hot rolling the same to a sheet material or the like. Each brush 7 is produced by twisting fine wires 9 of a stainless steel to a twisted wire and twisting plural pieces of such wires 10 to a rope 11. The grinding part 13 at the front end thereof that contacts with the material 1 is untwisted to have densely aggregated monofilaments 12 of the stainless steel wires. Since the scale is removed not by the ejection of highly pressurized water as in the prior art, the need for the highly pressurized water is eliminated and the heat loss of the rolling material is considerably decreased.
