Stratifying storage tank allowing the simultaneous accumulation and use of a same fluid at different temperatures and with a variable nominal separation level. The installation is composed of one or more tanks 20 preferably connected in series by the intermediary of three-way isolating valves 44, 46 and pipes for the supply and for the extraction of the stored fluid 12 and 14 located in the bottom part of the tanks, the diffusion of fluid being carried out in the central section at the bottom 26 for the cold fluid and at the top 34 for the hot fluid, balancing devices 42 preventing any convective internal movement likely to disturb the stratification. The application of this system concerns substations for the preparation of hot water for sanitary purposes fed by a heat network using low-temperature energy, but in general to any storage of fluid where the stratifying of different temperature levels is sought. <IMAGE>
